| 2003: Jalen Receives Magic Johnson Award |
2003 - The Professional Basketball Writers Association presented the
annual Magic Johnson Award to Jalen Rose of the Chicago Bulls on August
17, at Jalen's All-Star Charity Basketball Game. The Magic Johnson Award is given to the NBA player who best combines the attributes of Hall of Famer Johnson: Excellence on the basketball court, cooperation with the media and public and community service. Previous winners were Ray Allen of the Seattle SuperSonics and Elton Brand of the Los Angeles Clippers. The award is voted on by the members of the Professional Basketball Writers Association. Said association president Sam Smith of the Chicago Tribune: "We are thrilled that Jalen Rose is the winner for the 2002-03 season. He has been among the NBA's scoring leaders the last three years, he is always available and cooperative with the media and public and his charity game in Chicago August 17 demonstrates his commitment to charitable work and the community. The attributes Jalen exhibits are a model for NBA players." |
