In 2000 the Jalen Rose Foundation was established by then Indiana Pacer now current ESPN/ABC analyst and broadcaster Jalen Rose to create life-changing opportunities for underserved youth through the development of unique programs and distribution of grants to qualified nonprofit organizations. Grants focus on sports and education and are distributed worldwide.
Annual Programs University of Michigan Endowed ScholarshipThe Jalen Rose Foundation made a generous donation to the University of Michigan to endow a scholarship for an incoming freshman. The Jalen Rose Endowed Scholarship is available to a first-year student with special consideration for students who come from the state of Michigan and either resides in an inner-city area, or are a member of an underrepresented group. The scholarship award is based on both merit and financial need. The $10,000 scholarship completely covers the cost of in-state tuition, as well as provides support for additional expenses. It is renewable for three additional years, provided the student recipient meets the eligibility requirements, which include maintaining at least a 3.0 grade-point average. High School ScholarshipsEvery summer, The Jalen Rose Foundation awards five Detroit high school seniors a $10,000 college scholarship to help them achieve their college dreams. Jalen, who attended Detroit Southwestern High School, designates a minimum of one scholarship to his alma mater. Winners are selected based on academic achievement and goals, extracurricular & community activities and financial need. AAU – Team MichiganJalen is proud to be the Head Coach of AAU Team Michigan since 2005. The Jalen Rose Foundation also financially supports the Michigan team annually in hope that they will continue the rich tradition of success started when Jalen was a player on the squad back in high school. Numerous current and former NBA players have been a part of this team earning National Championships in 1974, 1977, 1986, 1987 & 1991. |
